Fugitive Wanted For Felony Nabbed In I-84 Stop

A man wanted on a felony charge in New Jersey was apprehended by New York State Police troopers in Dutchess County after he was stopped during a routine checkpoint on I-84.

Troopers from the New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit were conducting vehicle inspections at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Beacon when came upon Paterson, N.J. resident Alex Mondragon, 23, who was driving on the interstate.

Police said that further investigation determined that Mondragon was wanted in New Jersey on an active arrest warrant for theft by unlawful taking in Sussex County.

Mondragon was arrested and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail following arraignment. He is due back in Dutchess County Court on Friday to answer the charges.
